Spotted: A Moth Wing
What does a one-winged eagle have to do with anything? It was the uneven yet complete metal marker for a driveway. Colors of America, or part of a National Football League team’s fight song: Fly Eagle. (Not Fly Eagles Fly.)
On Tuesday’s walk, an ash tree had bitten the dust, lay across the path. A week of rain has soaked the earth; weak roots. D said the sun may come out today. L said “I think Pennsylvania is turning into a tropical rain forest!”
Wednesday, the path is clear of elephant trunks. What lay on the path instead? A moth wing. A Polyphemus moth wing. Mythic proportion portion. Polyphemus ate people for breakfast. Nobody blinded him. Solitary cave-dwelling herder.
Speaking of caves, cyclops and to do lists, D has bedroom cleaning to do today and I found starry flowering crab things, some wee maple wings and delicate tree flowers that created a semé pattern on the wet dirt path that completes a eye of a needle shaped loop off the main path.
The way was missing all manner of herons.

Today I saw both a Blue Heron and an Egret at the same time standing across the river from each other. Thought about you.
